Energy consumption and network connectivity are two of the most
important research issues in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). While
topology control has been employed in static networks to minimize energy
consumption, it has recently been tailored for mobile networks to
achieve efficient broadcasting with the promise of low interference and
low energy consumption. However, a more adequate evaluation of various
topology control algorithms, in particular, regarding mobility is still
needed. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of some well-known
topology control algorithms with various scenarios and measurements. The
results show that Local Tree-based Reliable Topology (LTRT), a recently
proposed algorithm, is the most scalable method and provides the most
benefits in terms of redundant connectivity.
