Tohoku University Researcher Receives ARNOVA Emerging Scholar Award in the United States
The ARNOVA Emerging Scholar Award is presented annually by the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), the world’s largest academic association in the field of nonprofit and civil society studies. The award recognizes early-career researchers whose work demonstrates exceptional promise and significant contribution to advancing scholarship in the field.
At the 54th ARNOVA Annual Conference held in Indianapolis, USA, in November 2025, Margaret A. Dansu of the Graduate School of Information Sciences, Tohoku University, was selected as one of the recipients of this prestigious international award. The award honors Margaret’s ongoing research on online peer support communities and marginalized populations, which offers new theoretical and empirical insights into how digital spaces shape identity, resilience, and social participation.
This recognition highlights both the originality of the research and its global relevance to contemporary challenges faced by vulnerable groups. The award also reflects the growing international presence of Tohoku University’s scholarship in the fields of information sciences, sociology, and nonprofit studies.
